Tech in Asia

Tech in Asia is looking for a senior journalist/editor to help shape our coverage of the tech economy across Southeast Asia and the broader Asian tech scene.

Our newsroom focuses on tech businesses, emerging technologies including AI, capital flows, market shifts, and the executives building and running these companies.

You’ll help push reporters towards providing deeper reporting and giving clear insight into how tech companies are built, scaled, and financed across the region. You will also be expected to write your own stories, setting the standard for junior reporters on your team to follow. 

The role reports to the Managing Editor.

Responsibilities

• Report and write original stories on technology companies and the evolving tech economy in Southeast Asia and Asia
• Develop sources among founders, operators, investors, and tech executives to produce exclusives content 
• Identify emerging trends, business shifts, and important developments in the region’s tech industry
• Contribute analysis and reporting on tech businesses, emerging tech, AI, venture capital, and capital flows
• Edit and provide feedback on stories from reporters across the newsroom, helping improve clarity, structure, and depth
• Work with reporters to refine angles, strengthen sourcing, and elevate the quality of coverage
• Contribute to our daily and AI-focused newsletters, as well as other editorial initiatives
• Support the distribution of stories across social media and digital platforms

Requirements

• Excellent command of written and spoken English
• Several years of experience covering technology, startups, business, or finance
• Strong editing experience, with the ability to improve clarity, structure, and depth
• Proven ability to develop original reporting, including building sources and verifying information
• Strong news judgment and understanding of the tech and business landscape in Southeast Asia and the wider region 
• Comfortable interpreting company strategies, funding dynamics, financial statements, and business models
• Ability to manage multiple stories, edits, and deadlines simultaneously
• Comfortable working remotely in a distributed newsroom
